Leading A Photography Tour To Capture The Heritage

I was at Hampi last weekend, leading a photography tour to capture the heritage sites and landscapes of the ancient town. While I was there, I decided to use a cell-phone camera seriously for the first time to see if it can be a viable tool for photography during impromptu situations. Here is a collection of images I made during the three days, and my analysis on using a cell-phone camera.
I used a Samsung Galaxy SIII for this shoot, but this isn’t meant to be decotouch paints limited specific phone camera. Also, some of these images were also shot using digital zoom, which deteriorates the quality of images considerably. These images are not meant to be assumed as a demo of phone-camera’s image quality in general.
Devaraya is a village accountant who works in a nearby village. His father and grandfather worked as ‘dasayya’s at Melukote and he has earned the right to be one himself by descent. Since his full time profession keeps him busy and yet, since he believes that he should perpetuate the family tradition, he comes here whenever he finds time.

The holy journey – Char Dham Yatra

Char Dham Yatra is the most sacred journey of Hindus which consists of visiting the four major important pilgrimage sites located in the Himalayan Ranges. Hindus prepare for this sacred journey like believers of other religions who do for their pilgrimage tour. There are various holy sites for Hindus where they go to seek the blessings of the almighty. However, among the most important sites, there are four centers which altogether make Char Dham and the journey to these centers of god is called the Char Dham Yatra.
As we all know, the four centers of the yatra are Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri. The temples at these places are sacred shrines habitations of various gods and goddesses which hold the utmost position among the Hindus’ life. People believe that the sacred journey brings along salvation and the pilgrims become free from the cycles of death and birth. This holy journey is actually the way towards spiritual learning in the adobe of god which is believed to be in existence since past thousands of years ago. Various Hindu scriptures have mentioned the power and usefulness of this sacred journey whose information is being shared from generation to generation.
Every Hindu believes that the journey to these temples which is covered under the religious Kedarnath Badrinath yatra fulfils their wishes and grants the blessing of the lord. Being located in the most tranquil environment, these sites also bring the nature’s most interesting and beautiful face which is otherwise impossible to see. The holy temple of Gangotri is located on the banks of River Bhagirathi on greater Himalayan ranges and hence, brings an exquisite view of nature in the sight of pilgrims who forget their miseries and grieves after arriving here.
On the other hand, Yamunotri is the source of River Yamuna and the holy seat of Goddess Yamuna in the Himalayas. The holy thermal spring is the major attraction at this place at Janki Chatti where the pilgrims cook rice to offer to the Devi. The goddess is considered the mother and is believed to nurture and develop the Indian civilization, and hence, is given immense importance in every Hindu’s life.

People in thousands of numbers do the Kedarnath Badrinath yatra to achieve salvation and pray for the well being of their loved ones. The temple is located in the most tranquil surrounding and it seems that pilgrims have stepped into the real heaven in the verandah of god.
